Welcome to Desert Rose Adventures. We are a family who love to explore Australia and have starting to go on overseas adventures too. Our family is made up of Alex, Ryan, Laura, Zoe (dog) and of course me, Renee.
Alex and I meet back in 1992, married in 1994 and in 1997 we starting travelling. Our first adventure was to Uluru and absolutely loved it. In 1999 the real fun began when we bought our first 4WD – Heidi Hilux (1989 2.4l Diesel). Poor Heidi she was a tough old thing, we had heaps of break downs but most of all heaps of fun as we explore places we had never been before, at last we had freedom.
We started getting involved in charity 4WD drive events which gave us adventures to everywhere with like people and we would never had got to these places without them.
So I guess you’re also wondering where the Desert Rose name comes from, well when we started doing charity events we needed a team name, it had to be displayed on your car and was your call name over the radio. So we thought for ages and me loving my roses like I do and this being our first event, and we were going to the Simpson Desert. So Desert Rose became our name and it has stuck ever since, just with the added word Adventures so people know what we love. Funny point I should add, Laura’s middle name is Rose too, see I love roses. Bit like Dorothy the Dinosaur.
Alex
Mechanical engineer by trade and generally can fix anything, which is always good when exploring. Loves to drive, loves dirt and would rather sleep in his swag all the time. Alex’s prize possession is his map of Australia, marker with all the roads we have done on it, he will stand ther
e and look at it for hours, you can tell he loves planning trips too. Alex will produce the perfect excel spreadsheet of where and when we are going, he can tell you exactly how many litres of fuel per 100kms we have used. Any bit of data he will know.
Renee
That’s me, well pretty boring childhood so when Alex and I see, I was studying horticulture which I have continued to work in which feels likes forever. I have also studied photographer and owned Desert Rose Photography. Had ambitions of being a famous landscape photographer but Peter Lik, who I love beat me to it. But between working in horticulture Alex and I were both motorsport photographers (travel travel weekends away). Then in 2008 our world of two increased to three with Ryan being born, then in 2011, our meant to be baby Laura arrived, so been mum for a while. Then back on 2014 we bought our farm, west of Dalby. So then I am or more wanted to become a proper farmer.
Ryan
Our baby boy, he is a sweet heart, well some times, loves to ride motorbikes at the farm. Loves travelling and can remember everywhere is have been and can be extremely adventurous. Ryan is 10 and nearly as told as me with feet the same size as mine already. At 5 weeks he was camping in Tenterfield, nearly froze him on our first mother’s day together. At 11 months we were to Singapore, not a lot remembered by him.
Laura
Definitely our meant to be baby, we were on holidays and guess what came back pregnant. Laura is certainly our ball of excitement or more should I say girl power. Laura is such a girl, didn’t get it from me that’s for sure. Laura loves being a girl, makeup, hair, nails, all that stuff, clothes oh my goodness clothes. Laura is only 6, so help my bank balance.
